My graduation research

Semester 7

Solo project

I love nature. The light that falls through the canopy from above, the path that goes around the corner makes you curious about what will happen next. These are just two examples which make you feel at home and calm. The stimuli we receive in nature are very important to connect us with the world around us. I miss that feeling in most architecture; when we are indoors, we do not receive these stimuli when we most need them, especially when we experience stress. Most people spend a lot of time indoors; so it is very important what that interior space does to us. As a designer, I look at design in nature and then translate it into architecture. This way I can create a space that gives you the same peaceful feeling as nature does.

In my graduation research, I investigated which aspects of nature give us that peaceful feeling and how that can be translated into architecture.

In my research, I found seven aspects of nature that contribute to that feeling of peacefulness. I made a few sketch models attempting to translate those aspects into architecture.

The seven aspects
